The orchid has approximately 750 natural species and more than 30 thousand hybrids. Naturally, among such a variety there are plants with yellow flowers. However, many varieties have a very original form.

Lycast Orchid: Features

Likasta is a plant with fragrant yellow flowers that are located alone on 20-centimeter peduncles and look original in the photo. From other species, this orchid has a strong aroma.

Lycast grows actively, in the summer it requires heat and abundant watering. In winter, the plant should be rearranged in a cool place. At the same time, watering must be reduced. During the growing season, orchids require periodic spraying with water and partial shade. With proper care, the diameter of the flowers of Lycasta can reach 15 centimeters.

Small genus Anguloa

The genus Anguloa has 13 species, but even among them there are orchids with yellowish petals.

Under natural conditions, Anguloa can be found on the slopes of the Andes. It grows near trees, the largest specimens reach a meter in height.

This orchid is characterized by the presence of oval pseudobulbs with long and bright leaves. From pseudobulb comes several peduncles. An adult orchid can have up to 12 pieces.

The inflorescences of Anguloa are single, the petals can be decorated with dots or have a two-color color, which looks original in the photo. Petals and sepals cover a small lip, which is why the plant is often called the cradle of Venus. Blooming orchids lasts up to 8 weeks, the aroma of flowers can be different - from chocolate to coconut.

Growing Anguloa is simple enough. Before starting a new growth, a plant is transplanted - about once every 3 years. After transplantation, it is important to ensure that the pseudobulbs are located above the soil surface. If this rule is not observed, the orchid may rot. Watering to the formation of new roots is moderate.

The plant propagates by dividing the bush. In this case, each flower should get one young sprout and 2 adult pseudobulbs.

Of the pests that Anguloa fears, it is necessary to distinguish a scale, from diseases - gray rot.

Features of Fragrant Dynema

Dynema is represented by only one species. The flower has a bright and pleasant aroma and prefers to grow in a warm area. In nature, the plant can be found in the Caribbean and Central America.

Demands for care are moderate:

  • From April to September, the orchid should be fed.
  • Reproduction is carried out by dividing the processes.
  • It is better to take pieces of old bark as a substrate.
  • Humidity is required high, so when kept at home, spraying is recommended.

The main types of yellow dendrobiums

Some species of Dendrobiums have yellowish petals, which are perfectly obtained in the photo.

  • Dendrobium Lindley grows in Southeast Asia, has univalent pseudobulbs covered with scaly leaves. On inflorescences there are up to 14 pale yellow or golden yellow flowers, the diameter of which is up to 5 centimeters. Flowering plants occur from March to July.
  • Lion Dendrobium. This orchid grows in Cambodia, Kalimantan and Laos. The plant is small, has triangular leaves and peduncles with creamy yellow flowers with a diameter of about 2 centimeters. Orchid blooms mainly in summer and autumn.

How to care for yellow orchids

Dendrobiums are photophilous, therefore they should be placed on the western and eastern windows. When the flower is located on the south window, it will require shading in the form of a curtain.

The ambient temperature for the plant in winter should be about 24 degrees during the day and 15 degrees at night. Some types of Dendrobiums will have enough and 12 degrees of heat.

A dendrobium with yellowish flowers that look amazing in the photo requires a humidity level of about 60%. In view of this, the best option is to place the plant on a pallet with wet pebbles. In summer and spring, orchid requires abundant watering, the substrate must be moist all the time. In winter, watering is significantly reduced, the soil should be practically dry. As for fertilizers, they are applied during the growth and budding of Dendrobium.

An orchid with yellowish flowers is transplanted only after the roots begin to emerge from the pot, about 3 years after the first planting. The pot is chosen not too large so that the plant is comfortable, and in the photo in such a capacity the flower looks more neat. The soil can be pine bark and peat, you can use a special store mix.

Of the pests from which Dendrobium suffers, spider mites should be distinguished - they appear in dry air, scutes and pemphig. To prevent the appearance of pests, orchids are recommended to be sprayed periodically. If the air in the room is too humid, a fungus may appear on the plant, so you need to carefully monitor the humidity level.

Reproduction of Dendrobium is carried out by air layering or division. You can divide the flower only once every 4 years, but it is permissible to shoot the apical shoots every year. The optimal time for propagation of orchids is from April to June.

In addition to the above, it is worth noting that Dendrobiums love fresh air, but drafts do not tolerate well. Flowering in plants is quite long - up to 19 days. Cut flowers can last from 4 days to 3 weeks.

Important Nuances

All dendrobiums with yellowish petals prefer to live in small pots. However, some species also feel good on blocks. A mixture of peat, bark, perlite and charcoal should be selected as a substrate for such plants. If the substrate is selected correctly, an orchid transplant should be done every couple of years. Water the plant so that the soil is always slightly moistened, then it will look great in the photo and in life. Good drainage also plays an important role. In summer, plants need a slight shadow, and in winter, on the contrary, more light is needed.

Proper Orchid Care (video)

In order for orchids to develop well and delight in their flowering, they need proper care. Regardless of the shade of the flowers of the plant, it requires competent watering, a sufficient level of illumination and periodic feeding.
