Successful cultivation of various crops in your greenhouse is possible only if you are able to ensure the correct and timely watering of plants. There are many special systems for the device of such irrigation, and now we will talk about the most popular and most practical.

Providing plants in the greenhouse with water is one of the factors of a rich harvest. Water helps plants get a variety of nutrients from the soil and control the internal temperature. Equally important is the humidity in the greenhouse. The rate of moisture evaporation from the soil depends on it, as well as the possibility of developing diseases of greenhouse crops.

The quality of the water that will be irrigated is also important. It should be clean, free of toxic impurities, neutral and low in minerals and salts. Once the ideal was rainwater, which has repeatedly passed through natural filters, but, in view of our ecology, at the moment it can even be harmful.

Despite all the allegations about the quality of water, our people rarely think about this. We water plants in the greenhouse and in the open ground with ordinary tap water, water from wells from various reservoirs. Of course, this can be done, but it will be most correct to use special purification filters in such cases, which will make the water prepared for irrigation and more useful than harmful.

So, with water and its quality sorted out. Now we should move on to the issue of greenhouse irrigation. Today, the most commonly used methods are well-known to everyone: drip, hole, subsoil, surface and sprinkler.

Hole, or classic method, has been used for a long time, and we won’t talk about it too much. It is suitable for watering plants in open ground and in a greenhouse. Watering is done manually, using a watering can, measuring device, hose and so on. A certain amount of water is poured into the hole prepared near the plant, which is then absorbed into the soil and absorbed by the root system. Everything would be fine, but after the invention of the types of irrigation, which we will talk about below, hole irrigation of plants began to be considered less effective. Very often water does not reach the roots, wetting only the surface of the soil, often during irrigation the root system (pressure from a hose under the root, watering from a bucket or mug under the root) is disturbed, and the moisture level in the greenhouse is constantly changing. These arguments were made by professionals for a reason and, in any case, have the right to exist. We will move on to the following types of irrigation in greenhouses.

Automatic greenhouse watering

Nowadays, professionals and gardeners-amateurs are increasingly using automatic watering. And, this is understandable, because this type of irrigation provides a clear dosage of water for each plant, its uninterrupted and timely supply, as well as the uniform distribution of water throughout the greenhouse. These advantages have made such systems popular and in demand. Moreover, with automatic watering you have the opportunity to significantly reduce the amount of manual labor and entrust the entire watering system, as well as reduce water costs by almost half.

Intrasoil irrigation in a greenhouse

This type of irrigation is considered the most effective, but also very expensive. It is arranged so that water enters directly to the root system of plants. Undoubtedly, this method provides a whole range of advantages: maintaining the soil structure, constant support for an even level of soil moisture, uniform watering, as well as reducing water consumption and eliminating evaporation. The subsoil irrigation system in the greenhouse is used more and more often, since its positive characteristics are very noticeable.

Drip irrigation

Of course, many of you are well aware of what drip irrigation is in a greenhouse, but also many would like to hear about the advantages of this method.

It consists in a continuous and fully systematic supply of water to the root zone of each plant. This makes it possible to save not only water, but also electricity and fertilizers.

An ordinary pipeline with special droppers is laid in the rows of the greenhouse, taking into account the width of the rows and the number of plants in the row. A separate dropper is installed under each plant, which supplies it with the necessary moisture.

Drip irrigation systems in greenhouses are very popular due to their advantages. Also, this system is affordable and its creation is possible even with your own hands.

Automatic irrigation system device

The above types of irrigation for greenhouses are most often automatic. This allows you to increase the cost savings for the maintenance of the greenhouse and significantly reduce the labor costs of the person who cares for it. But they can be ordinary, that is, with standard on and off manually. In this case, the economy and uniformity of irrigation are not so stable.

How to make automatic watering? What does that require? Having talked with experts, we decided to express them, and our own opinion right here, on the pages of the site. So, for an automatic watering device, the following is required:

  • Watering heads. Elements of automatic irrigation, on which the exit of water from the system, pressure, pressure maintenance, range and height of the water discharge depend;
  • Solenoid valves. Special components that turn water on or off in a specific area. They are controlled by the system control panel;
  • Remote Control - This is the heart of an automatic watering system. It is here that the main programming of the amount of water, the time and periods of its supply, auto power on and auto power off, as well as other functions of the system;
  • Underground pipeline. According to this system, more precisely, even a grid of pipes, pure and nutritious water for plants passes, while it is supplied directly from a tank or a centralized pipeline for each plant;
  • Water sockets. Installed in different areas of your greenhouse, water sockets will help arrange quick watering even where this was not previously planned;
  • Pumping station. We can say that this is the second heart of the system, without which water supply is simply impossible. No, if you will water the greenhouse without using an automatic system, just from the water supply, then you do not need a pump, but in this case it is simply necessary;
  • Storage tanks. In the event of a water outage or lack thereof, such containers will always help your plants and save them from drought with the help of a large supply of water;
  • System filters. They are really necessary. High-quality filters purify water from pollution, toxic elements, small delamination of the pipeline and other components that are not needed at all when watering the greenhouse.

As you can see, everything is quite simple, and if you combine all the components into a single whole, you will get a high-quality system with which you can easily arrange automatic watering of cucumbers in a greenhouse, tomatoes in a greenhouse, pepper and other crops in various areas of your site.
